Online therapy in Ontario: what a first session can feel like
Beginning therapy can feel tender, even when you have thought about it for a long time. Many people come to Mindology wanting support, and also wondering what it will be like to speak with someone through a screen.
Online psychotherapy can be a quiet, steady place to land. You stay where you already feel most at ease — at home, in a parked car after work, in a room with the door closed — and still have a full conversation with a Registered Psychotherapist.
A quiet place, from wherever you are
I offer online sessions to clients in Ontario. The work itself is not smaller because it happens online. We still slow down. We still listen for what sits underneath the week you just had. We still make room for silence when silence is useful.
What changes is the threshold. There is no commute, no waiting room, and often a little more privacy. For youth, adults, couples, and families, that can make it easier to keep showing up — which is a large part of how therapy becomes helpful.
What online actually looks like
Sessions take place by secure video. You will need a private space, a stable internet connection, and a device where you can see and hear comfortably. Headphones can help if the house is not completely quiet.
If something technical gets in the way, we work with it. The relationship matters more than a perfect connection. What I am listening for is how you are, not how polished the call looks.
Who this kind of therapy is for
People come to online counselling for many reasons. Some arrive with a clear word for it — anxiety, grief, a relationship that feels stuck. Others only know that they are tired, overwhelmed, or not quite themselves.
- Anxiety, stress, panic, and the mind that will not settle
- Mood, phobias, and feeling unlike yourself
- Relationship strain, including couples work
- Grief, loss, and life transitions
- Trauma, PTSD, and the body keeping score, including chronic pain
- Sleep that will not come, and nights that feel too long
- Substance use, and the patterns around it
Sessions are available in English, Urdu, Hindi, and Punjabi. If the language you rest in is not English, we can work there.
What the first conversation is for
I offer a free, no-obligation 15–20 minute phone consultation. It is not a first session. It is a chance to hear what you are hoping for, to ask a few practical questions, and to feel whether we may be the right fit.
Finding the right therapist is part of feeling safe. The therapeutic relationship itself can be a meaningful part of healing. If we continue, the first session is where we begin more slowly: what brought you, what you have already tried, and what support might look like from here.
A note about credentials and coverage
I am Mona Ammad, MSc, RP, a Registered Psychotherapist practising online from Vaughan, Ontario. I am registered with the College of Registered Psychotherapists of Ontario and a member of the Ontario Association of Mental Health Professionals.
Many extended health plans in Ontario cover sessions with a Registered Psychotherapist. I can provide a receipt for you to submit. Coverage varies, so it is worth checking your plan before you begin.
If you are ready to begin
You do not need a finished story to reach out. A sentence is enough. We can start with a short call and see whether this feels like a place you can settle.
